The Faces of Mexico

Post Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 2:42 pm

These are the faces of many of the people we have met in Mexico over the past several years. We are blessed to work with Hortencia and her family.   She works tirelessly with children throughout Acuña teaching them about Jesus.    There is a story behind each picture.  For example, the little boy holding camouflage pants in front of himself….he is now grown up.  A few years ago, he accepted Christ as his Savior.  There is a picture of 2 toddlers sitting on a sofa…the very next picture is 7 years later.  The pictures with little girls holding up dresses–those are the dresses our friend, Wanda sews for the children in Mexico.

Many thanks to everyone who donated money for school supplies, Sunday School materials and many other things. We made 6 trips into Acuña and got the green light each time. We had hundreds of school supplies (notebooks, crayons, markers, glue, pencils, pens, etc.) which are desperately needed for children to go to school.

Supplies Arrive in Acuna

By the end of our trip, everything made it into Acuña. We also purchased many paper plates, paper cups and napkins with the gift cards we received. Muchas gracias to all! Lives will be changed thanks to all who gave!

From December to July, we will be collecting CHILDREN’S MULTI-VITAMINS.  We recently learned that there is a huge need for children to receive vitamins.  Unfortunately, vitamins are very expensive in Mexico and the families we work with cannot afford them.  With “buy one get one free” deals here, we can make a difference in the health of the children in Mexico.  We would appreciate your help in purchasing vitamins for the children.  This would make a great project for Sunday School classes or Vacation Bible Schools.

Financial Need:  Donations to Cord Ministries are tax deductible.  ALL donations go to our workers to provide meals, materials and meet the needs of the children in Mexico. The ministry continues to grow and spread throughout Mexico.  We desperately need more funds to reach and teach the lost in Mexico.  Contributions can be sent to:  Cord Ministries; P.O. Box 702190; St. Cloud, FL 34770.

Jose is an  incredible young man who has worked with Hortencia and Cord Ministries for several years.  He not only repairs the buildings, makes his own cement blocks, but also teaches in the day centers.  Jose has been going to school and will graduate at the end of November, 2012.  Then, in January, he hopes to attend a police academy.  Please keep Jose in your prayers and God directs his life.

(After lots of stories about alligators in our backyard, we brought some alligator for Jose to taste.  This is Jose eating an alligator taco!)

This is Beto.  He began coming to the Tierra Esperanza day center with is grandmother, Modesta.  She not only brought Beto to the day centers where she helped Hortencia, but he also traveled around Mexico with her teaching the lost about Jesus.  Now, he is grown up with a family of his own.  But every time the doors open at the day center, Beto is there with his family learning about Jesus.

The building is finished and secure.  Children and adults fill the building to learn about Jesus.  Each meeting begins with some songs, a memory verse, a Bible lesson/story, a coloring page for the younger children and an activity page for the older children and adults and finally some food.  Before the food is passed out, the children repeat the Bible verse to Hortencia.  They leave with a full heart and full tummy!

After months of work and filling out pages upon pages of applications, Cord Ministries is officially a 501(c) (3) organization, aka: Tax Exempt. That means Cord Ministries is qualified to receive donations and give letters for tax deductions. We praise God for His guidance in directing us to this next step in the ministry.
All donations go directly to our workers in Mexico who teach children about Jesus and meet the needs of the children and their families through food, clothing, housing and education to change their lives forever.
Cord Ministry is changing lives throughout Mexico in Acuna, Piedras Negras, Torreon, Zacatecas, Parral, San Lorenzo and Juarez.
If you would like to be part of reaching the lost in Mexico, you can send your donation to:
Cord Ministry, P.O. Box 702190; St. Cloud, FL 34770-2190.

Tierra Esperanza Update

The New Building
The new building at Tierra Esperanza is looking great. Jose made all of the cement blocks and then built the walls. Jimmy and his awesome group of volunteers from Austin did a great job with the roof. Right now, the floor is dirt and sand, but that does not stop the children from coming to learn about Jesus. We hope to have the floor poured with cement before the Christmas festivities begin. There are still a few finishing touches, but we are thanking God for His faithfulness in getting the building done!
